Renaissance Dance & Music Meetup
Ready to party like it’s 1559? Come enjoy music and dance from the renaissance period! We will dance and play music from England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, and more, country and courtly alike.
This event is open to anyone in the Kansas City area, even if you’ve never danced or played music with us before. We meet from 4-6 p.m. in the Westport Rising Room (basement) of Westport Presbyterian Church.
Anyone can be a dancer! The steps are simple, and we will teach you everything we know. If you can walk in a pattern, you can do the dances!
We welcome all musicians! We will have sheet music available for you to play from. The tunes range from very simple to medium difficulty.
Instruments that we’ve had before are flute, violin, viola, cello, recorder, oboe, hammer dulcimer, guitar, mandolin, lute, snare drum, bohdran drum, penny whistle.
~~~~~~WHAT TO WEAR ~~~~~~~~~~~
Casual clothes that you can move easily in. This is physical activity and we do warm up and stretch, so dress accordingly.
~~~~~~ABOUT THE ST. VITUS DANCERS~~~~~~~~~~~
This event is hosted by the St. Vitus Dancers, a renaissance dance and music group in Kansas City. We teach and perform at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, as well as other events around the city. See our facebook page or website for more information!
If you are able, please bring $2 cash to help fund the rehearsal space. If money is tight, don’t worry about it! We’d like to have you come out and dance / play anyway!
